How can I reduce the size of a PDF?

Adobe Acrobat Pro

If you have installed Acrobat Pro, follow these steps:
  1. Open the PDF Optimizer dialog box (File > Save As Other > Optimized PDF).

  2. The Images panel in the PDF Optimizer let you set options for Color, Grayscale, and Monochrome Image Compression and Image Downsampling. Set all of them to:
    • Downsample: “Bicubic Downsampling to” “72” ppi for images above “72” ppi
    • Compression: “JPEG
    • Quality: “Medium

  3. Click “OK.”

Adobe InDesign

  1. File > Export. Save as type: “Adobe PDF (Interactive)”. Click Save.

  2. A dialogue box will appear containing a choice of PDF export options. The main thing you must pay attention to is whether you set the Export for Pages or Spreads.
    Image Compression is already set to 72 ppi.

  3. Click Export.
